Director General of the OECS
His Excellency Dr. Didacus Jules assumed the post of Director General of the OECS in May 2014. In this role, he is responsible for driving the regional integration thrust towards a single economic and social space involving ten Eastern Caribbean States.
Professional Experience
Dr. Didacus Jules brings extensive regional and international experience to his role. From 2008 to 2014, he served as Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the Caribbean Examinations Council, where he led a comprehensive modernization of the Council. His previous roles include:
- Vice President of Human Resources at Cable and Wireless Saint Lucia (2005-2008)
- Permanent Secretary for Education & Human Resource Development in Saint Lucia (1997-2008)
- Permanent Secretary for Education and Chief Education Officer in revolutionary Grenada (1981-1983)
Consultancy and Board Memberships
Dr. Jules has provided consultancy services to national governments and regional and international organizations across the Caribbean, Africa, Europe, and North America. Additionally, he has served on numerous private sector, educational, and philanthropic boards.
Educational Background
Dr. Didacus Jules holds an impressive array of academic qualifications:
- BA (Hons) from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill
- MSc in Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
- PhD in Educational Policy and Curriculum & Instruction from the University of Wisconsin-Madison
- MBA from the University of the West Indies Cave Hill
Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO)
Dr. Julie R. Gralow is a distinguished breast medical oncologist with a remarkable career dedicated to advancing cancer care and improving patient outcomes. She currently serves as the Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer for the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO).
Academic and Professional Background
Dr. Gralow is Professor Emeritus of Medical Oncology at the University of Washington (UW) School of Medicine, where she spent over 25 years on the faculty, directing the Breast Medical Oncology program. She also holds the title of Affiliate Professor of Global Health at UW. Her extensive experience in conducting clinical trials includes roles as the former Executive Officer for Breast and Lung Cancer and Vice Chair of the Breast Cancer Committee for the SWOG National Cancer Clinical Trials Network.
Commitment to Cancer Patients
Dr. Gralow is passionately committed to enhancing the quality of life for cancer patients. She co-founded Team Survivor Northwest, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping female cancer survivors improve their health through fitness and exercise. Additionally, she founded the Women’s Empowerment Cancer Advocacy Network (WE CAN), which focuses on supporting cancer advocacy and education in low- and middle-income countries.
Awards and Recognition
Dr. Gralow’s contributions to cancer care and advocacy have earned her numerous accolades, including the 2018 ASCO Humanitarian Award and the 2021 OncLive Giants of Cancer Care Award for Community Outreach/Policy. These honors reflect her unwavering dedication to empowering women cancer patients globally.
